I have Windows 7 Home Edition, 64-bit. I am networked to a Windows XP system with an HP DeskJet 995c attached to it.
1. On the Win 7 system, the Control Panel-- Hardware and Sound-- Devices and Printers-- Add a printer routine can find the DeskJet on the network.
2. On clicking Next, it says that it s Checking Windows Update. This might take a while to look for a printer driver.
Result: it says that it can t find it and then says to try and find it manually, it asks me to browse for itproblems include:
a. No matter what I do, I can t get Windows Update to check for the Deskjet 990c driver as suggested above.
b. When I go to the direction on the HP site for the 990c, the only directions given are for a locally connected USB printer and then Windows Update will take it from there.
1. If I connect my printer locally, attempt and succeed in loading the driver, can I then take the printer off the Win 7, put it back on the XP and when I attempt to connect to it, the Windows 7 system will find the driver it s looking for in the local printer definition. I suspect this is no but I want to ask.
2. If I do a.1, will I be able to remove that local definition without affecting the networked definition and driver.
c. How about someone give me the name of the darn file and let me download it.
Windows 7 doesn t seem to have the 995c OR the 990 driver. My 995c isn t obsolete, only its driver is obsolete. Is there a generic driver I can at least use.
There IS a Deskjet 990 driver that should work fine with the 995. Go to Start, Devices and Printers, Add a Printer, select the proper port, then click on Windows Update. It will take a few minutes to update the list, after that the Deskjet 990c will be available for selection under manufacturer HP, not Hewlett-Packard.
